This course in Physical Anthropology covers both the biology of contemporary human populations
and the evolutionary history of hominins and our hominid ancestors, broadly defined. It emphasizes
three themes: anthropology is a holistic discipline; humans are an integral part of nature; and our
evolutionary past influences the dynamic relationship between us and our environment. Topics to be
covered include the nature of humankind, genetics and natural selection, heredity, human and non-
human primate anatomy and behavior, the fossil record, and human variation.
