The Internship class is a requirement for all Sociology, Anthropology, Criminology, and Behavioral Science students. The original course was designed to provide our traditional students an opportunity to complete a semester's worth of time working in an agency or position related to their field or academic study-in effect, they had the opportunity to “try on” a profession. However, many of our students are adults who already hold professional positions. To accommodate their needs, an On-Line version of the traditional course was created. This course is directed toward professional enhancement and designed to provide students with a thorough understanding of their current position (e.g., its foundation of theoretical perspectives, controversial issues within the field), its place within the organization (e.g. contextual environment), and the potential opportunities it may hold (e.g., advancement, increasing responsibilities, new directions). Your experience and insights gained through a series of written exercises that constitute the core activity of this course become an important addition to your curriculum vitae.
